CHICKS & TYPES

chicks & type | simone massoni

One day I was puttering around online, searching for some new graphic design inspiration. Long story short, I fell down an internet black hole and ended up finding this series called Chicks & Type by Simone Massoni. I just love her personification of different typefaces. So cheeky. And this short excerpt by Cosimo Lorenzo Pancini about a graphic designer’s love of type and choosing just the right one makes me smile. Definitely a kindred spirits moment.

Choosing the right one. What a problem.

I mean if you look at them, with their different personalities and sexy curves, how can you prefer one over another? Maybe you like long legs, or are fascinated by bold shapes. But then you see that elegant thin one and you just can’t help falling in love.

Now, maybe it’s a question of age. Young, I was fascinated by Californian types: quirky, exotic in a contemporary way, the ones to spend the night having fun with. But then, growing up, I started to find them a bit too childish and cute in a cheap way. I realized the class of something more modern would suit me better. The Helvetica allure: elegant, timeless, the perfect companion…

Only to fall prey once again, to the fashionable types. Well dressed and damn sexy, the ones that can make your head spin… In the end, can you choose one, without feeling a bit like Don Giovanni in the Mozart Opera, who admits that whoever is faithful to one is cruel to the others?

This is why we spend hours in front of the font picker in our design software. Feeling such ample sentiment, we love all of them. But since normal people can’t comprehend these things, they call our natural goodness Typography.

Until we finally meet the right one, the one we tie the knot with. The one we will be with together forever and ever. Maybe.

WORK THAT UPDO

a quick & up-do | sisterly blogI’ve been wearing my hair up every day lately. My reasoning has been a combination of 1) it’s hot and hair stuck to the back of my neck grosses me out and 2)  I’m tired of my hair and don’t know what I want to do with it. Do you ever get stuck in those ruts when you want a change but you don’t know which way to go? I’ve been tossing my hair up just to get it up and pretty.

In an effort to be more efficient, I started a Pinterest board collecting images of cute easy up-dos. All of these have been road tested by yours truly, so they’re fumble-fingers proof! I’ve even experimented making my own.  I call this one the “my arms are tired.”

How are you wearing your hair this summer? Do you have a favorite go-to up-do? Let me know!

LADIES WE LOVE / SOFIA COPPOLA

sofia coppola | ladies we love | sisterly blog

Are there girls out there you want to be friends with just because they have killer style, are super funny or you love their work? Us too. Those type of girls are the best. The kind you have so much in common with and just know you’d be besties. What a high compliment, don’t you think? To be admired so, based off your personality and hard work. We think so. Which is why we wanted to start this new series called Ladies We Love.

Our first lady is Sofia Coppola. This lady is the definition of cool. She always looks great on a red carpet (being BFFs with Marc Jacobs doesn’t hurt!) and she makes fun, smart movies that you want to watch again and again. Like Marie Antoinette? Coolest soundtrack ever. & the prettiest Parisian eighteenth century frocks. Her direction for the movie was so unexpected and well, awesome. And let’s be honest – who hasn’t wanted to sport a hot pink bob after seeing Lost In Translation?

I’m pretty excited about her newest movie, The Bling Ring. It’s based on a true story about a group of teenagers who notoriously broke into the houses of celebs like Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan and Orlando Bloom. It comes out this Friday and Reg and I have had a standing date night planned for months. If you haven’t seen the trailer yet, check it out here.

More ladies we love!

ONE THING / 6

one thing 6 | topshop rose gold leather sandals | sisterly blog

There’s something about rose gold that makes every skin tone glow. What better way to celebrate long, tanned (or naturally fair) legs than with a pair of chunky-heel rose gold sandals? I’m envisioning wearing this outfit on a patio in the shade one summer afternoon, sipping something cool and refreshing while catching up with friends. Oh, to be so lucky.

MONTHLY MOOD / JUNE

june monthly mood | sisterly blog

This month I’m feeling really inspired to take a leap of faith and do something I think will make me happy. I’m making some changes in my life and working towards something I’m really excited about. I’m the type of person who is extremely skeptical of talking too much about something before it happens, so I won’t.

But I will say this: At times it feels like I’m just kind of wandering around, waiting for my life to start. It look me a while, but I realized that it’s ok if you don’t have everything figured out all the time. Sometimes you just have to mentally step away from it all and get some perspective. There’s a lot to be thankful for and a lot to be proud of.

If you’re unhappy with what you’re doing or how your life is going, there’s no shame in wanting to start over or try something new. So that’s what I’m doing. I think if we just try to do what makes us happy, finding joy in the little things will come easier than we thought. And having a picnic on a cloudy day or wearing a yellow dress with bright blue tights may just be the best place to start.

1. Chop pineapple and mangos (how to cut a mango here)

2. Add orange juice and blend until smooth.

3. Serve and let your family + friends personalize to their own tastes!

THE REGINATOR

  • To 6 oz of smoothie add: 1 oz Grand Marnier, 1.5 oz 1800 Reposado tequila, and a strawberry garnish to prevent glass confusion

THE LITTLE SISTER

  • For the younger crowd: Pour a big smoothie into a fancy glass, add a squirt of lime and toast to family.
